I like the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt because it’s a story of freedom from oppression. But it also is a story about how we can’t just sit back and let God take care of everything. We have to take some kind of initiative in our own life of faith.

The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. (Exodus 14:15, 16 ESV)

How often do we sit around and wait for something to happen when we need to be getting up off our rump and doing something? When it comes to our spiritual life, we need to be proactive. We need to take the initiative. Don’t just stand there move forward.
